It's a mystery. Big Brown came out of the race fine, and they never found anything wrong with him. It's a shame that was the opprotunity he took to have a bad day. Why Belmont Day? All in all it just makes Sir Barton (1919), Gallant Fox (1930), Omaho (1935), War Admiral (1937), Whirlaway (1941), Count Fleet (1943), Assault (1946), Citation (1948), Secretariat (1973), Seattle Slew (1977), and Affirmed (1978) all that much more amazing. After all, there is a reason that only eleven horses have pulled this trick out of the hat. That was very apparent when BB simply had no gas in the tank on saturday after the strain of making his third start in five weeks.
