Gayego brings excellent credentials with his Arkansas Derby win, and what I mean, really, is that the Arkansas Derby is one of the strongest prep races. Smarty Jones, Afleet Alex, Curlin--they all came from that one. Gayego was the last to pick a post, so he got what was left, which after Big Brown's connections surprisingly picked 20, was 19. Gayego has excellent speed figures (in comparison) and definitely has a shot if he gets a good trip. For any fans of patterns, he's been 1st, 2nd, 1st, 2nd, 1st in that order, so if he keeps that going he'll be second here.
