Rivalry is Put to Rest in Santa Anita

Colonel John came flying up the outside late in the final furlong to just score in the Grade I Santa Anita Derby over Bob Black Jack and Coast Guard. El Gato Malo was the favorite with Colonel John the second choice, but the gelding didn't show up to play today. In an earlier post, I stated my top five for this race:

1. El Gato Malo
2. Colonel John
3. Yankee Bravo
4. On the Virg
5. Bob Black Jack

They finished:

1. Colonel John
2. Bob Black Jack
3. Coast Guard
4. Yankee Bravo
5. El Gato Malo
6. On the Virg

So my top five were in the top six, which isn't so bad, but El Gato Malo dissappointed me today. Colonel John will be moving up on my list in a few minutes.
