Top Ten Update

(left: Big Brown)
It's taken me nearly 21 hours to decide how I feel about Pyro's Bluegrass that wasn't yesterday. I'd love to believe that the synthetic made all the difference, and in some ways that makes sense. Regardless, it's not a good way to end preparations for the Kentucky Derby. Big Brown must only prove that his Florida Derby was as good as it looks. And Colonel John, only that he can transfer his Polytrack form to the Dirt. Top Ten is (parentheses show previous number):

1. Big Brown (2)--inexperience is biggest issue

2. Pyro (1)--didn't like Keenland, does like Churchill.

3. Colonel John (4)--Gayego's victory in Arkansas D. further validated his cause

4. War Pass (5)--Distance is an issue.

5. Visionaire (6)--is consistent and may benefit from distance.

6. Tale of Ekati (3)--Wood may not have been as good as it looked, but showed determination

7. Monba (N/A)--Bluegrass winner looks good, surface questions must be answered.

8. El Gato Malo (7)--Santa Anita wasn't his best, may not have enough earnings to get in.

9. Gayego (N/A)--Arkansas Derby looked very good, validated the top horses from the west.

10. Z Forutne (N/A)--Good rebound in Arkansas, needs a little more punch on Derby Day.
